Belajar English - kenapa ramai takut nak cakap English

I was looking around for some stuff to write here today, when I stumble on this great article. I just realised that this could be why a lot of people tends not to talk in English ( I think I knew about this, but never realised that this is so true!). People are afraid to make mistakes. They are afraid that people would judge their English grammar and what not. Have you ever heard how a taxi driver speaks in Bangkok? He doesn't give a damn whether you'd actually understand him or not. Yet still, you do understand bits and pieces of his conversation, and on top of that, he sounds pretty darn confident about himself.( I salute you!)
So dear friends, your aim should not be to talk perfect English as you are learning. Aim to be fluent at English and allow yourself to make mistakes. Give yourself a chance. Make this year the year that you will improve your English. After all, we are not native English speakers. We have our own language that we love:)

Pernah dengar tak macam mana teksi driver kat Bangkok cakap English? Dia bukan kisah you faham ke tidak. Tapi anda mungkin faham sikit2 apa yang dia cakap. Yang best tu, confident pulak dia cakap. (Cayalah!)

Note. Nanti pening kepala. Thank you.

Miss Admin, i am agreed on what have you wrote in your article. One of them is me. Sometimes when I trying to speak in English with my local friends, I'm afraid to make mistake when construct the sentences. Then I will stop and start to use our local language. However, Its differ when we talking with foreigner where we knew that they do not understand our local language. So, we do not mind our mistake as long as they may understand what i am trying to say to them. What is your opinion on this?

Apa Pendapat Cik Maya?

First of all I would like to thank you to you encourage all the ppl out there to speak in English language… But to me this is the big challenge when ppl out there will start talking to you if you do not know how to speak in English( sometime they in a straight line laugh at you)….don’t speak la…. I heard a lot of ppls like this around us….how do we overcome this kind of ppl…we want to learn if they say so how are we going to improve our English into public
Thank You very much.

@lina : it's almost part of the Malaysian culture. Once they are good they just seem to look down on others. Don't let this hinder you. They may laugh at you today but they may not laugh at you tomorrow. I know it is hard but you have to begin somewhere. Kuatkan semangat. Sometimes in life we care too much about what others think of us...try not to.Good luck.
